Exploring the Western Ghats
Beyond its coastline, Thiruvananthapuram district extends into the lush forests of the Western Ghats, offering exceptional opportunities for wildlife exploration and eco-tourism. The Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary, located about 30 kilometres from the city, forms part of the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve. The Neyyar reservoir attracts numerous bird species, making it a rewarding destination for birdwatching and nature photography.

Further northeast lies the Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, known for its tranquil reservoir, rolling hills, and rich biodiversity. The sanctuary shelters elephants, deer, and a wide variety of bird species, offering nature lovers opportunities for trekking, wildlife observation, and peaceful exploration within pristine forests.
